How to calculate how much fabric you'll need for curtain panels

When it comes to curtains, there are a lot of factors to consider in order to get the perfect look for your windows. But one of the most important considerations is how much fabric you'll need. Drapery panels are typically sold by the yard, so it's important to know how to calculate the amount you need before heading to the store.

The first step is to determine the width of your window. Then, measure the distance from the top of the window to where you want the curtains to end (typically about 6 inches from the floor). Next, you'll need to decide on the Drapery Fullness. This is usually expressed as a ratio, such as 1.5:1 or 2:1, which represents the number of times the width of the fabric will be fullness. In other words, a 1.5:1 fullness means that the fabric will be 1.5 times wider than your window, while a 2:1 fullness means that it will be twice as wide.

Once you have all of this information, you can use our Curtain Panel Calculator to figure out how much fabric you'll need. Simply enter in your measurements and desired fullness, and it will do the math for you! Of course, it's always best to err on the side of caution and buy a little extra fabric just in case. That way, you can be sure that you have enough to complete your project without any stressful last-minute trips to the store.
