Childress Fabrics & Furniture is a family-owned business that began as a reupholstery shop in 1958.
The Childresses left Chattanooga, Tennessee to travel to California to find work. They rented a tiny flat after their automobile broke down on Grand Avenue in Dallas TX.
They applied for employment after seeing a "Help Wanted" sign in a furniture store. Both were employed and learning the furniture business within two weeks. They decided to venture out on their own and established their upholstery shop in Dallas in 1958.
For over 60 years, Childress Fabrics & Furniture has been providing north Texas families with quality furniture at an affordable price. We carry a wide variety of upholstered furniture including upholstered beds, dining room chairs, upholstered living room furniture, ottomans, and more! Our team is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service – we want each and every one of our customers to walk away happy!
Many of Childress's children work for and run the company, including Mike, Brian, Debbie, Kenny, and Kristi. Mike started making house calls to provide fabric swatches to clients in the late '80s. According to Debbie, one day Mike walked in and declared that it was time for a change since he believed the customers needed to see and touch a large piece of fabric. That's how we started to focus on fabric sales.
A fabric store was added in 1989 by Mike Childress. It began as a small fabric store next to the family reupholstery business. Over the years, it has grown into one of the largest fabric stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. They carry a huge selection of fabrics for every home decor application, from custom upholstery to window treatments to bedding.
